THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY United Kingdom, 2024, 108 min Director: Hettie Macdonald Cast: Jim Broadbent, Penelope Wilton, Earl Cave, Linda Bassett
Harold Fry has passed through life, living on the side lines, until he goes to post a letter one day...and just keeps walking. Harold was never meant to be a hero, he is an ordinary man who leaves his seaside town in South Devon and sets off on a remarkable journey to deliver a message to an old friend. But what is he running away from? What is it all really about? The film gives us two big reveals. He has failed at all the important things: being a husband, a father and a friend. Surprising himself as much as his wife Maureen, one bright Devon morning Harold embarks on a long, cathartic walk of hope, determined to travel the length of England to save his friend. Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton are two fine actors on top form here. This is another small movie with a big heart which it wears on its sleeve. Original Language: English
