At the VEF Promenade, located at Ūnijas Street 8 in Riga, you can watch a friendly match between the Latvian national team and the Egyptian team on June 26. Entry begins at 6:00 PM, with the game being broadcast live on a big screen starting at 7:00 PM. Admission to the event is free.

 

Both teams are preparing for the Olympic qualifying tournament, which begins on July 2. The Latvian national team will start their tournament at "Arena Riga," while the Egyptian team will compete in Piraeus, Greece.

 

Since the summer of 2022, the Latvian national team has achieved the best record in the world, with 23 wins in 26 FIBA tournament games. They secured 5th place in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and have risen to 6th place in the FIBA world rankings. This summer, we hope to see all of the country's best basketball players on the team.

 

The Egyptian team won two of their five games in the 2023 World Cup, suffered three losses, and finished in 20th place. The Latvian and Egyptian men's national teams have faced each other only once before, on July 18, 2001, in a friendly tournament in Alexandria, where the Latvians won 97-82. In the same tournament, the Latvians also defeated Egypt's second team 106-65.
