The golden age of motorcycles clubs is a time capsule of sorts of late 1960s Chicago .

After a chance encounter at a local bar, strong-willed Kathy  is inextricably drawn to Benny , the newest member of Midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals led by the enigmatic Johnny . Much like the country around it, the club begins to evolve, transforming from a gathering place for local outsiders into a dangerous underworld of violence, forcing Benny to choose between Kathy and his loyalty to the club.

 Inspired by the photo book of the same name by Danny Lyon, The Bikeriders both celebrates and interrogates the Midwestern motorcycle lifestyle popularised by films like Easy Rider. Handsomely directed and with strong central performances from Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon, The Bikeriders reaffirms Jeff Nichols’ (Mud, Take Shelter) reputation as one of US cinema’s most compelling dramatic filmmakers.

Though Nichols’ storytelling summons the golden age of Westerns and gangster films, his sensibility is fully modern. 

Nichols blends comedy, violence and tenderness with astonishing control, simultaneously celebrating the biker code of loyalty, courage and independence while providing a clear-eyed if sometimes ironic perspective on how their “freedom” threatens other ways of being in the world.
