WORLD-FAMOUS ITALIAN TENOR
ALESSANDRO SAFINA

Alessandro Safina will present his new programme consisting of classical global hits and new songs from the singer. The concert will be accompanied by a symphony orchestra. In addition to his new songs, the renowned opera and pop singer will also sing the beloved hits that made him famous.

Alessandro got interested in music when he was nine. His parents were big opera fans and tried to make their son share the passion. When Alessandro was 17, he joined the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence and a few years later, he was playing main roles in leading European theatres. In 1989, the singer won the main prize of the Katia Ricciarelli International Vocal Competition and became actively involved in the field of classical music. Over the course of a few years, Alessandro performed leading roles in La Bohème, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, L'elisir d'amore, Rusalka, and many others.

FAVOURITE SINGER OF THE BRITISH QUEEN
Unique voice, natural charm, charisma, and artistic bravery brought global fame to Alessandro Safina. Singing arias from Eugene Onegin and La Bohème, the singer dreamed of bringing opera closer to an ordinary listener, ‘to animate the opera with pop music elements’. This generated a new genre, one that the singer would later call ‘rock opera’. It includes elements from pop music, academic vocal, soul, and even melodies from musicals.

Safina became very famous in the Netherlands after The Night Of The Proms concert. His single ‘Luna’ from the album Insieme a te was at the top of the Holland charts for 14 weeks. The album was published in more than 30 countries; it was certified gold in Brazil and Taiwan, and four times platinum in the Netherlands. Later, Alessandro presented the world with fabulous duets with Sarah Brightman, Elton John and Ewan McGregor, Barbara Hendricks, Sumi Jo, and other singers. In addition to his singing career, Safina played in films and makes soundtracks, for example, for Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!

The famous tenor now performs on the world’s best stages in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Brazil, Canada, Korea, the USA, France, the Netherlands, Russia, the Baltics, and elsewhere. His first concert in Russia was in 2010 and since then, the Russian audience has received him very well and is eager to meet him again. Over the past two years, Alessandro has performed several concerts all over Russia and been a guest of some popular TV shows, like Вечерний Ургант (Vecherniy Urgant, ‘Evening Urgant’). It is also worth mentioning that Alessandro Safina is the favourite singer of Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom.

Alessandro Safina has a hero – the legendary opera singer Enrico Caruso. In addition to classical music, the singer is fond of pop and rock music and loves artists such as U2, Genesis, Depeche Mode, and The Clash. However, Alessandro likes modern opera far less than the classical one. “Maybe in 20, 40, or 50 years we will understand something of what is composed today”, said the tenor [1].

In addition to his singing career, Safina has appeared in films. He portrayed himself in the series Clone, one of the most successful Brazilian series by Globo, and Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca e altre due, a free screen adaptation of Tosca by Giacomo Puccini .

Alessandro Safina (Italian pronunciation [ales•sandro sa•fina]; born 1963) is an Italian operatic pop tenor.
Born in Siena, Italy, Safina has sought to combine his interests in opera and modern pop music.[1]

Safina began to study music when he was nine years old and attended a music academy at the age of 12. At 17, he was accepted to the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence, Italy.

In 1989, he won the “Concorso Lirico Internazionale” in Manatova, Italy, and this lead to his opera debut. In 1990, he appeared with soprano Katia Ricciarelli as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème.[1]

In the nineties, Safina began recording with Italian pianist/composer Romano Musumarra and his independent debut was released in September 2001. Safina's single ‘Luna’, released in 1999, reached number 2 in the Dutch charts.[2]

He performed Elton John’s “Your Song” with Ewan McGregor and a part of the Elephant Love Medley, sung by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.[1] In September 2001, his concert ‘Only You’ was taped in the El Greco amphitheatre in Taormina, Sicily. The concert was later broadcast in the series Great Performances by American public channel PBS and released on DVD in 2003. Also in 2003, Safina performed the English and Korean vocals for a Korean song called ‘Hamangyeon’ (하망연(何茫然)), part of the soundtrack for Dae Jang Geum. Safina played Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca e Altre Due, a film based on the opera Tosca by Puccini.

In 2007, he recorded a duet with the British soprano Sarah Brightman for her album, Symphony. He then joined her Symphony World Tour for the performance in Mexico in November 2008 and for the Asian Tour in March/April 2009 where he sang ‘Canto della Terraj’ and ‘Sarai Qui’ [1] with Brightman.
