Merzbow & Balázs Pándi to play at Skaņu Mežs 2017

In 2017, Skaņu Mežs will celebrate its 15th anniversary. The festival will take place at the music house “Daile” on October 13th and 14th with an opening event on October 6 at the art museum Riga Bourse. The first announced act of this festival edition is the duo of Merzbow, the Japanese noise musician, held as one of the most important artists in the field, and Balázs Pándi, a drummer active in experimental metal, noise and free jazz. They will play on October 14.

Folk singer Stu Larsen will perform in Riga coming fall

On September 28th an Australian singer, songwriter and folk musician Stu Larsen will perform at Latvian 1st Rock Cafe (Riga, Marstalu 2/4). It will be his first time in Latvia and this concert is to support his brand new album Resolute (to be released on July 21st). The previous, his debut album, is called Vagabond and was released in 2014. A relevant role in its making, record and producing took his friend, a romantic British singer songwriter Passenger, also known as Michael Rosenberg. It’s worth mentioning that Passenger show in Riga last fall was completely sold out.

Fink will perform in Latvia for the first time

British Folk-Rock, Blues and Indie band “Fink” will perform in Riga on Friday, 29th of September in concert hall Palladium. The trio will visit Latvia during a support tour of their upcoming brand new album to be rolling out in spring. “Fink” has released 7 albums until now, of which commercially most succesfull have been “Perfect Darkness” (2011) and “Hard Believer” (2014). The best known hits are Looking Too Closely, This Is The Thing, Perfect Darkness, Sort Of Revolution, Yesterday Was Hard On All Of Us.

POSITIVUS FESTIVAL 2014 tickets on sale

In 2014 Positivus festival will be held for three days - from July 18 until July 20 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The tickets for the 2014 Positivus festival will go on sale on October 21. The first three days – October 21 until October 23 – the three day Positivus festival ticket will be available for a special price of LVL 33 (EUR 46,95).
 
First held in 2007, Positivus Festival for the eighth time will take place in the Latvian coastal city of Salacgrīva, with sunny beaches and misty forests to compliment the world class performers, along with art and music workshops. Over the years, Positivus Festival has hosted The xx, Muse, Sigur Rós, Imagine Dragons, Two Door Cinema Club, Willy Moon, Stereophonics, Travis, James, The Manic Street Preachers, Scissor Sisters, Crystal Castles, King Charles, Fatboy Slim, Mark Ronson & The Business Intl., Moby, Pete Doherty, Hurts, OK GO, Michael Kiwanuka, Tom Odell and many more. 
 
Positivus also took home the ‘Best European Festival’ award from the British „Festival Guide” this year, beating the tremendously popular Roskilde, Roch Werchter and Spain’s Benicassim in heavy competition. The student festival guide described the festival as possessing “a certain simple enchantment that is unmatched by any other event”. The guide also points out that the festival is “fantastically affordable” and full of Latvian delights. The festival was also included in "Filter Magazine’s” ‘Top 5 Most Anticipated (International) Summer Festival’ countdown in 2011, with the follow-up resolution to visit and cover the live events from the festival this summer. This year the festival won the largest-ever foreign response and appreciation and Positivus Festival has been nominated for the festival award in “Best European line-up” category. This nomination of candidates is selected by an international jury, and Positivus Festival in this category is competing against 9 other European festivals, including Glastonbury, Roskilde, Latitude, Primavera, RockamRing, Sziget, etc. Positivus compete with other festivals in “Best medium sized festival” category as well.
 
The tickets for the 2014 Positivus festival will go on sale on October 21 and for first three days tickets will be available for a special price - only LVL 33 (EUR 46,95). From October 24 a 3 day ticket without camping will be available for LVL 37,95 (EUR 54). 3-day ticket with camping LVL 42,17 (EUR 60,00).
